Whilst in the Area
If you are traveling to Abernant, and would like other things to do, or to offer adventures to those non-fisher-folk who might like to come with you, there is lots to do in the area, to suit all interests.
Abernant is half way between Hay-on-Wye and Builth Wells, near to the village of AberEdw, and quarter of an hour from Talgarth, with its lovely walking festival, mill and cafe, and Bronllys, with its Honey Cafe.
Nearby Llyswen and Boughrood provide great facilities (food shops, cafe, petrol station, bed & breakfasts) and Erwood Station Gallery and Cafe is worth a visit and is approximately 20 minutes' walk to the south of Abernant. There is also the Wheelwright Arms in Erwood. It is a short 5 mile walk or drive to Felin Fach to enjoy The Griffin gastro pub, or to Glasbury to enjoy the hotel & restaurant Foyles
Aberedw is where the last indigenous Prince of Wales (Llywelyn 'The Last' ) spent his last days before dying after battle in 1282. The cave in which he sheltered, "Llywellyn's Cave" overlooks the beat of Abernant, and a wonderful walk passes it. Situated at the foot of Aberedw Rocks the cave is full of carvings stretching back centuries. Surrounded by ancient mixed woodland it's a pleasant walk up to the cave whilst on top of Aberedw itself there are views covering the Brecons Beacons and Wye Valley below.
If you would like to look into fly-tying, try the Hereford Fly Dressers Guild or Ludlow Fly Tying Club
